Dr. Khetan's exceptional surgical skills have led to the successful treatment of giant pathologies that are considered incredibly rare in neurosurgery, solidifying his status as a pioneer in the field.
Giant Spinal Arachnoid Cyst (14cm)
A 12-year-old patient presented with severe progressive paralysis in both lower limbs and incontinence, eventually becoming completely bedridden. MRI scans revealed a massive 14cm spinal arachnoid cyst spanning from the D4 to D11 vertebral levels, causing severe compression of the spinal cord.
In an 11-hour marathon surgery, Dr. Khetan meticulously removed the cyst in a single piece without rupturing it or damaging the delicate spinal cord. To prevent long-term bony complications in the growing child, a laminoplasty was performed. The patient is now recovering and able to sit up independently.
